Bao Down shutters original Gastown location

You'll find them around the corner at their Bao Down Snack Bar spot

Bao Down in Gastown has closed their original location, and is focusing on their three larger locations in Vancouver–and in other cities.

Just shy of its three-year anniversary at the small space on Powell Street, Bao Down came onto the scene guns blazing and with a big sense of humour. (There was a cheeky promo campaign that made use of the wordplay around their signature food item, buns.)

Bao Down Gastropub in Olympic Village–a bigger space with a more expansive menu than in Gastown–soon followed, then their Filipino-fuelled Snack Bar concept on Carrall Street in Gastown, and then a location in Commercial Drive. And, they’ve also managed to expand their business into the U.S., launching a San Francisco Bao Down last year.

All signs point to the focus being on the bigger shops–and, in the case of Gastown, the signs literally point customers to find Bao Down’s stuffed steamed baos, appies, cocktails, and more pan-asian fare just steps away at their Snack Bar.
